Ray’s brother Tommy is living with dementia and can no longer take care of himself. Hoping to keep him at home and surrounded by people he knows, Ray convinces their friend Sarah to marry Tommy, that way she can live with him and become his caregiver.

But on the day of the wedding, Ray’s son Eric arrives just in time to object to the union, convinced that his Uncle Tommy no longer understands what he is agreeing to. Now Ray must convince Eric that the marriage isn’t an exploitation of Tommy’s condition but an act of love intended to preserve what remains of his independence.

The Wedding is a short film about dementia. It was written by Heidi Dill, a screenwriter whose husband Chris suffers from the disease.

Chris plays Tommy in the film. It was an incredible experience working with him as an actor with dementia, a beautiful challenge that the rest of the cast and crew were eager to take on.

Dementia is an extremely hard and painful disease to deal with, especially because it has no cure, and we hope our little film can help in some small way.
